Kuala Lumpur, 22 September 2025: Perbadanan Insurans Deposit Malaysia (PIDM) recently awarded scholarships to 20 students under its Undergraduate Scholarship Programme. The programme has long supported deserving students in need of financial assistance to pursue higher education since its establishment in 2010.
“Behind every scholarship recipient is a story of perseverance and potential. We know that the cost of higher education can be challenging for many families. The PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship programme aims to support these deserving students so they can focus on their growth and are provided with opportunities to create a positive, lasting impact for their families and communities,” said Rafiz Azuan Abdullah, the Chief Executive Officer of PIDM.
Rafiz also emphasised the importance of investing in the future generation that will contribute to a stronger, more resilient nation. As an organisation that protects financial consumers, PIDM strongly believes that education is an important safety net for the younger generation to secure a better future for themselves.
Since the programme’s establishment in 2010, PIDM has supported 270 deserving students pursuing various fields of study including accounting, economics, actuarial science, computer science and information technology.
Top Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) scorer Adeline Liew Pei Fen, 20, from Kuching, Sarawak, first learned about the scholarship after coming across a social media posting about it. She was interested in applying after reading the experiences of past recipients.
“I’m glad that I applied and I am more motivated than ever to do my best in my university studies,” said Adeline, who dreams of becoming an economist. She looks up to her cousin, who was the first in the family to obtain a higher education degree, as her inspiration.
Visnu, 21, from Kluang, Johor, said he applied to various scholarship programmes in hopes of completing his tertiary education in Social Sciences (Economics) at Universiti Sains Malaysia. He achieved strong academic results in his Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) and STPM and actively participated in national-level activities.
“This scholarship lifts a big weight off my shoulders. It means I can focus on excelling in my studies instead of worrying about how my family and I can afford it,” said Visnu, who aspires to be a banker or economic analyst.
Mohamad Riyaz bin Mubarak Ahamed, 19, from Seri Kembangan, Selangor, is starting his studies in Applied Finance at Universiti Putra Malaysia after completing matriculation. For him, the scholarship means more than just financial aid; it also provides opportunities for mentoring, coaching and internships.
“I was so grateful to be selected. I look forward to getting exposure to real-world experiences that will help my future career,” said Mohamad Riyaz, who hopes to become a financial planner.
Adeline, Visnu, Mohamad Riyaz and other recipients received their scholarships from PIDM at a ceremony that was also attended by newly graduated scholars, PIDM’s Board members and senior management.
The PIDM Undergraduate Scholarship Programme provides scholars with financial support to pursue and complete their tertiary education. This comprehensive aid encompasses tuition fees, living expenses, and learning aids. Through the programme, scholars may also undertake internships at PIDM and receive guidance from PIDM mentors.
